Poker is a card game played by a group of players. The aim of the game is to create the best possible hand. The hand is made up of five cards. The player who holds the highest card wins.<\/p>\n
There are many different variations of the game. Each variation may be played with a single player or a large group. The amount of money and number of players involved vary from one version to the next.<\/p>\n
A hand is formed by selecting five cards from a communal deck. One player is usually the “dealer” whose turn it is to deal the cards. He or she is also the person responsible for placing the first bet.<\/p>\n
An example of a winning hand is a Straight Flush. This is a five-card combination containing the highest value card and the second highest. It is rarer than a Four of a Kind, though.<\/p>\n
It is also important to note that in some variations the hand is split between the lowest and highest hands. That is, two players with a Straight can win the pot.<\/p>\n
Having the highest hand may be a little bit of a stretch. Nonetheless, a straight is a pretty good example of the old “five of a kind” rule.<\/p>\n
