The Basics of Poker

Poker is a card game that is played between 2 or more people. It is one of the world’s oldest games and has many variations. There are a number of rules that must be followed to play. When you’re playing poker, it’s important to make the other players pay to see your cards. If you’re bluffing, this is even more important, as they will be less likely to fold when they see your strong hands. This is why you need to have a solid strategy to win.

In order to play poker, each player must have 2 cards dealt. Once everyone has their cards, a round of betting begins. The player to the left of the dealer puts in a mandatory bet, called a blind.

Once the betting is over, each player has the option to stay in the hand or fold. To stay in, you must say “call.” When someone raises the bet, you must match them to stay in the hand. If you don’t want to stay in, you can say “fold.” You may also call a raise that someone else makes.
