The first round of betting begins once each player has 2 hole cards. This is called the flop. The dealer then deals 1 more card face up, which is known as the turn. There is another round of betting and then all remaining players reveal their hand. The highest hand wins. Ties are broken by looking at the high card.

A strong hand usually includes a pair and a straight, but there are other possibilities such as a flush and a full house. The higher the rank of the pair, the better. A straight is a sequence of 5 consecutive cards. A flush is five cards of the same suit.

A good poker player uses their intuition to make quick decisions. They rely on the experience of playing and watching poker to develop fast instincts. They also watch their competitors and learn from their reactions to the cards they see played, analyzing what they would have done in that situation.
